Reporting to the Engineering Manager, The Operations Engineer will have an electrical bias and be directly responsible for the maintenance activities of the assets, providing technical knowledge, making decisions and providing analysis which will protect asset integrity of the wind farm and revenue. Critical operational, engineering and maintenance decisions will be required daily to optimise the value of the assets. It is critical that the highest standards of safety and quality are maintained at all times by doing the right job, right, first time.  Certain aspects of the maintenance activities will be in collaboration with contractors personnel therefore an understanding of contract conditions and a flexible approach to work will be required.

Principal Accountabilities:

  • You will act as site technical expert for all electrical equipment installed on the wind farm and provide expert maintenance support to the wind farm operations team covering 56 wind turbines, foundations, array cables 33kV substation equipment and a 24hr control facility.
  • You will be responsible for optimising and refining the maintenance strategy following RCM principles to ensure efficiency and best value for the business,
  • Responsible for the proactive preparation of plans for high cost component replacement, lost production mitigations through framework agreements and spare parts strategies.
  • You will be working closely with other engineers and the operations team to ensure optimal planning of resources, plant downtime and the continued asset integrity through life.
  • You will develop and manage inspection campaigns to maintain asset integrity of major components such as wind turbine blades, main bearings, foundation and davit cranes, this  will include the use of plant condition monitoring to manage through life risk
  • Provide site representation for RWE Renewables during major works offshore (Main component exchanges).
  • Carry out technical due diligence for plant modifications, retrofits and upgrades
  • Management of Contracts and Contractors to ensure the plant and apparatus is inspected and maintained in line with corporate and industry best practice including the development and approval of technical specifications and work instructions.
  • Carry out investigations of technical failures using recognised RCA principles and techniques

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Maintenance specialist experienced in a power generation or heavy industry environment,
  • HNC with experience or an engineering degree,
  • Analytical approach to problem solving with excellent communication skills and an ability to engage specialists on complex operations,
  • Process driven with an interest in continuous improvement,
  • Experience of managing budgets and contractors,
  • Flexible due to the nature of the offshore environment, and ability to stay offshore for short periods at a time,
  • Comfortable inspecting components offshore, often while working at height or in restricted spaces,
  • Comfortable working in an office environment, assessing large quantities of multidisciplinary engineering information to provide solutions via reports and presentations.
